The Black Hole
The project provides a newly built ten bedroom boutique hotel in the historical centre of Winchester on the site of a former single storey antiques shop and next door to the Black Boy public house.
The site footprint is very restricted with a steep slope and rising bank behind. The four storey insertion in a historic part of Winchester has created interesting and quirk spaces. This is also a secret roof terrance with views across to the cathedral.
Abbey Mill Restaurant
The works have transformed this listed historical mill building in Winchester from a disused office space to a large open plan restaurant for a well known television chef.
The spaces in the existing building were in bad condition with damp problems and structural issues. The previous arrangement of the building was disjointed and restrictive, making new uses for the building difficult. Careful negotiation was required with the planners and conservation officers over the extensive repairs and alterations.
The project opens up the interior space to make a double height area with new glass and steel stairs. Kitchen facilities and ancillary spaces are contained within the existing west wing, with a newly built stair core and rear entrance to the courtyard.
